Dairy Goat Lease Program (Herd Shares)

Breadcrumb Navigation

Thank you for your interest in our goat lease program!

Why Goat Leases?

In the state of Virginia, it is against the law to sell raw milk.  It is not, however, illegal to consume milk from an animal you own or lease.

How does it work?

When you sign up, you sign a contract that says you will be leasing a portion of our goat herd, which will entitle you to a portion of their milk production.  There is a one-time fee to start your share, and after that you will pay a monthly boarding/feeding/care cost for us to take care of and milk the goats for you.  Every week, on your designated day, you will bring us your clean, empty jars, and we will give you your fresh milk.  You can pick up the milk at the farm on your designated pickup day, or you can meet us at one of our Farmers’ Market booths.  You are also welcome to make an appointment to come out to the farm and visit the goats!

What does it cost?

There is a one-time buy-in fee of $20 per whole share, which will cover the cost of the mason jars and reusable lids we will use for your share.  The below table shows the cost per share or portion of share per month:

Price Per Month (Based on 4.5 Weeks per Month)*
1/4 Share (One Quart per Week) $28
1/2 Share (Two Quarts = Half a Gallon per Week) $51
3/4 Share (Three Quarts per Week) $73
Full Share (One Gallon per Week) $90

*does not include the one-time buy-in fee

Can I review/fill out a contract now?

Yes! Click HERE to download a contract. If you’re a returning customer, we will still need you to sign a contract for the new season. If you are new, please Contact Us first to discuss how to properly fill out the contract.

What days are available?

Our shares usually open for pickup around April 15th.   Generally, past shareholders are given first choice of pickup day.  If you’d like to be added to the mailing list for milk shares, use the Contact Us link, and be sure to let us know you’d like to be on the milk share list.
